Avolattes Are a Thing Now

Thursday, 05/25/2017 08:28
Yes, food trends have reached a zenith with the arrival of this, the avolatte, which is, as the name suggests, is a latte coffee served inside an avocado.

It actually started out as a joke by a bored barista at a Melbourne coffee shop, but we're betting his bosses at the Truman Cafe have given him a payrise, as the Instagram post (below) that started it all has now gone viral, inspiring copycat avolattes across the world.

It's predictably caught the hipster-bashing ire of the internet and even the avolatte's inventor Jaydin Nathan describes it as, “ridiculous. It’s literally coffee in a piece of rubbish.” The roots of this? Possibly the comments by a millionaire property developer in Australia, who recently suggested that the reason many millenials can't afford to buy first homes is because of a penchant for expensive brunches. “When I was trying to buy my first home, I wasn’t buying smashed avocado for $19 and four coffees at $4 each," said Tim Gurner.

Clever marketing ploy or just a joke that caught fire, regardless, let's hope this madness comes to an end soon. Or perhaps you're into this and would like nothing more than sipping on a milky coffee complete with avocado bits? You might like to give this avocado-themed restaurant in Amsterdam a try then.
